I wouldn't necessarily doubt it out of hand. The NBA has seen its share of hand-to-hand tactical applications, as most recently demonstrated by the Knicks and the Nuggets. Don't know if any of them are martial artists though.
Anyways, to keep my post on topic: As for myself and martial arts, I'm not sure. There's a boxing class at the gym I go to. I've considered showing up and trying it out. People say it's fun and a good workout.
