I think there must be an inborn instinct in some of us about needing to be the first. You know, the first to enter the theatre, the first to go into the plane, etc. etc. On the other hand, why no one needs to be the first at work every day?? About the babies, it is parental pride, you know...as in...look, what a robust, big baby we produced...!
