 weight of a baby?
I think the reason the weight of a baby is stated so often is to give an indication of how difficult the delivery has been.
A large and heavy baby means the delivery probably was pretty heavy aswell.
Although I don't think with small and light baby's the mother has any guarantee giving birht will be an easy ride either…
As for the airport thing: most people are afraid they'll miss out on something if they don't get in line early on.
