MasterD,

I do Isshinryuu Karate. TOKOKIN: Traditional Okinawan Karate Of Kinnelon

Picasa Web Albums - ToKoKin - April 2008 Shiai

I'm on the left. The head instructor of the school is on my right. This was April 2008.

The style I study has, I believe, a primary focus on those things traditionally associated to karate: striking, stance, kata (form), bunkai (technique analysis), conditioning. We supplement with forays into judo (gentle way; throwing and being thrown), chin-na (joint manipulation; very practical and hardcore), kumite (touch, not full contact, sparring), and probably a couple other things.

It's very well rounded, which is awesome. I cannot guarantee every traditional karate school in the area is so versatile - many are not. But try them out anyway and see if they are to your liking.
