I feel like music is an expression of life. It's an art form. I don't like every kind of music, but I respect the talent it takes to express yourself in such a way.
I personally like rap, even some of the more hardcore stuff that a lot of people feel is just negative and "bad". The thing is, I love the fast, clever rhymes. I love feeling the power behind it and seeing into a life that is foreign to me. A lot of rap is socially conscious or makes commentary on the state of the world. I think it has a place even though I don't expect everyone to like it.
The same can be said for metal or opera or indie pop...it's all someone's expression. And for that I think it can be respected even if one doesn't prefer it. Just like any other type of art.
...except for Kenny G.
