Update on the effectiveness of Super Power Memory
After 3 weeks since I read and tried the exercise in
Super Power Memory, I still remember the 12-word list mentioned in the first update I posted. No memory aids or rechecking, just the special technique in the book.
What does it feel like? Its not like bringing up the list like a computer would, but simply summoning the technique first, then the memory automatically flows through. It can work the first time you try it, like it did for me, but it does take practice to start doing it automatically throughout the day for other things...
To keep with this theme I'll include programs/products that I know about that are based on self-improvement.
Deep Trance Identification
I posted on this one before briefly.
Deep Trance Identification is a concept that claims a person can acquire the behaviors, skills and abilities of another person by focusing on that skill or behavior.
Even if the person lived centuries ago in another place, that person's behavior or abilities can still be aqquired. This is done by accessing that person's "M field" - supposedly a subtle field that exists and that contains information contributed by living things.
There is a concept called modelling which is similar, almost identical, but what makes this one program different is the use of the "M field" theory and using this to access a person's abilities.

....asked a young girl with minimum experience as a violinist, in fact she has had only 1 lesson prior to the workshop to close her eyes and to do a procedure called the borrowed genius, where she will put her head on someone else in this case Jascha Heifetz a well known violinist, needless to say that after the experiment she was able to go directly in the advanced class. How come such a quantum leap is possible ?

It's based on theory or story that scientists observed one female monkey on an island that learned to wash yams on a beach and soon others (but not all of them ) started repeating the behavior. Then, or so it is claimed, other monkeys on isolated islands started washing their yams, though they had no contact with the first group. This is hotly disputed by scientists though.
If this is real, you can image the advantages- learning to sing like a famous person you know, borrowing a person's skill, even if they lived centuries ago, like a guru, painter, etc.

........... Dr. Raikov discovered that under deep controlled hypnosis patients could borrow the genius of other persons, Raikov made some paint just like Rembrandt, but, after the person emerged from deep hypnosis, he denied that he did the painting yet , the person was still able to keep some of the Rembrandt skill despite the denial.

it makes math fun again!, May 8, 2007
By Jessica (Deleted by you know who) - See all my reviews
My daughter had always loved math but from last year she became bored by the math curriculum her school uses. I purchased this book and after only four chapters she's engrossed in math again! She loves the tricks and voluntarily makes up her own problems to solve. She's already seeing how the techniques help her in her normal math work. She is now probably the top math student in her class. In the Beestar online math tests [...], she is ranked high in the honor roll. I'm very pleased with this book. It makes math fun to my daughter again!

I might try this one, just like the memory book....
The Sedona Method Relieve Painful Emotions and Memories by a simple Technique
This book and technique claims you can easily release painful feelings and memories by doing a very simple technique.
Not to give away the technique, but it involves going into the problem/feeling itself, and releasing it completely until it is entirely gone. It has a lot of good reviews, a few negative ones as well:

Simple and Sound Techniques to Improve Your Life, September 11, 2008
By Zoey (deleted) "zoeyjordanwrites" (California) - See all my reviews
This book is an excellent read for anyone on the path of personal development. Initially I thought "Why would I want to dive into THAT feeling?" But I read through the introduction and learned a little more about the techniques and was pleasantly surprised at the immediate improvement in my mood and emotion. The Sedona Method offers practical and effective key strategies. I refer back to the text quite often. This book should definitely be included in your wellness library! Completly Incomprehensible, August 7, 2007
By Bayard T. Horton - See all my reviews
Without question, this is the single worst book in the self-help genre I've ever seen. Completely incomprehensible, irritating and frustrating. While many books of this type don't really deliver on their promises, this is the only one I've ever read that will make you feel WORSE! Dwoskin repeats over and over and over that "releasing" (which he never really explains how to do) is "simple" and "natural" and "easy" and you'll get results "immediately".
So, of course when there are no results you start to think that you're some kind of sociopathic freak because you don't "get it". If you're depressed, this book will make you suicidal; if you're angry, it'll make you homicidal. And please do NOT waste the $200 on the CD's just to listen to this guy read the book to you. You'll wind up throwing the whole mess in the dumpster and wishing you had your money back. Lost hopes,

I bought this book because I wanted to get over my rupture with my ex-girlfriend. It has really good reviews and I thought it was a safe bet to try it. Wrong choice.
First I have to say that I had some results, but they were inconsistent. I would get a mild relief from the sadness and anxiety, but 10 minutes later it would come back.
I tried all their tricks. Letting go of the feeling, letting go of wanting the feeling, diving in, welcoming the feeling, letting go of the basic want. Nothing worked as they said. Only, sometimes (not always), a temporary mild relief.
I tried letting go of resistances. In that area, no results at all.
In the light of all the good reviews and the success stories peppered through the book, maybe I am not normal or I am wrongly applying the method. However, I doubt it. The method is so simple that you cannot not apply it right.
Buy this book if you want, maybe you are going to have more success than I had.

So why doesn't it work for everyone? Maybe it doesn't really work and it's just the placebo effect at work again, or maybe something in the middle:

It really does Works IF You Work It,
By Mia (Deleted) (Indianapolis, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This is not a book you will read and be changed by its profound ideas. It is not an idea. It is a practice. If you are an intellectual snob who is not willing to get out of your head and into your heart, this practice will not work for you. Only if you are willing to go within and and FEEL the feelings that are keeping you stuck will you gain from this experiential technique. If you are willing to do the exercises, it will be a profound experience in raising your awareness and your peace of mind. It can help you experience the freedom you seek.
