A lot of people disable scripts out of security reasons. This is one of the most popular add-ons for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

It gives you the ability to pick which sites you trust and allow scripts there only. It did not work for me though, too many sites I visit use Javascript, but many do disable scripts.
