OOO.... I also use RTM. But I admittedly got away from following the daily goals because my life is just too unpredictable.
I think you may have two things going on:
One, you may be trying to change too much at a time. Changes come in tiny little baby steps. Pushing it will cause resistance. Can you break the change down into smaller and smaller goals, then just take one day at a time?
It also sounds like you're tending to feel discouraged or have self esteem issues. When you address this, meeting your improvement goals will come much easier.
