It really boils down to your transaction rates per month.
Over a 100, and you may want to look into something like authorize.net
We use this company for one of our clients, and it is efficient, and easy to integrate into your site.
I still think Paypal gets my vote because of the mutual buyer/seller protection. They do hold your payment in escrow in the event of a dispute, but if you have a legitimate business with legitimate products you will never have to worry about losing your money. In my 5 years of doing this, I have never lost a dime to a dispute.
My final word of advice is, under 100 transactions per month stick with Paypal merchant services. If you go over, you may want to start seeking other options.
