It IS a dating column. I don't read Cosmo, so I can't compare to it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were gems among the articles. The problem is, in effect, that the Sadie Hawkins thing simply doesn't get approved of often enough: anyone who pushes girls to pick up guys gets preferential treatment from me.

None of it is a secret. The problem is that most people never pay attention long enough to figure it out. They just shipwreck dozens of relationships without any clear idea of why and little inclination to actually introspect and analyze.

Those of us who take a step back and look gain the ability to offer universally relevant advice.

Social hierarchy. An alpha is someone who dominates a group, is (almost) completely self-driven, and are more likely to assert than to submit. The common litmus test is, "When you and your friends go out on Friday night, who decides what to do?" The alpha does. You know your group is full of betas if you can never figure out what to do. If it's round robin, then you probably have a group of alpha females.

Gender doesn't come into play, except as a variation. Women tend to have learned how to work with being an alpha better.
