Before that, I picked a purpose statement in a more intellectual way: To heal and empower by channeling my true spiritual identity in all areas of my life. Now, based on this purpose, how do I go about choosing an actual career? It seems so incredibly general, that I could literally do anything and to still be doing it.
Did anyone else go through this process of applying their general purpose to real life? I would love some examples!

I have the same struggle. I did a guided life-purpose meditation (I can send you the mp3 if you want it) and ended up with "love" in the end. Ummm...could the Universe be a little more specific? I guess not. I too took it to mean service to otherselves, and since I'm looking to change careers decided to apply it to eventually being a counselor.
But it also occurred to me that in my current situation I often lay a little of what I've learned on people I meet and get to know a bit, always while gauging their ability to accept whatever wisdom I can impart. I also use not only words but my attitude. I find this extremely rewarding and fantasize that perhaps the seeds I plant will go on to help them in some way.
So, I don't think that life's pupose necessarily points to one certain job or vocation or career. It's ideal to be able to do what you like to do, but if you can't do that for a while, it's still possible to be of service in the most mudane situations.
Good luck to you.
