I have never been able to make anything work. It either works or it doesn't.
I got into a particularly colorful argument with my girlfriend 3 or 4 months back and right in the middle of it all, I just stopped and said, "You know we don't
have to be together. I will love you just the same. We don't
have to make this work." The tension just floated out of the whole interaction.
Something about taking the should's, the have-to's and the need's out of it all.
