I know that this posting is rather old, but I am rather new in this community, so...

I was a paratrooper in 1984 to 1985. Yes, really short because I thought it would be the best idea to destruct all my vertebrae in one sole hit, striking some rocks as strong as I could do.

I needed 20 years to get really back on my feet. Became lazy, wasn't able to bend down at all. I suffered about back aches the whole 20 years. Finally, in 2006, i got a chirurgical intervention that really helped me. I started in 2006 with the power of a 10 year old child in my back. By this time I was growing fat with more than 20 kg surplus (oh no, don't tell me that you are to lazy to convert kg in lbs). NOW, right now. I am able to move like a normal being. Feeling like a 10 year old...

Ok, that doesn't fit your question. Only wanted to say: Fitness is relative! You can find yourself in a wonderful shape, just being able to set one foot after the other!
