I think that if you truly want to make legitimate money online you have to do some kind of work offline. You could write books and sell them online, but the writing is done offline. You can sell things online, physical things, but you need to design them, build them or acquire them offline. You can sell a service online but you have to do the work offline.

I could be totally wrong about this, though, but because I find multi-level marketing and similar schemes extremely distasteful, more legit work like I have described is what I can think of and is what other people I admire have done.

For example, I know people who build dulcimers and sell them online. I know people who fix up old junk and sell it online. I know freelance graphic designers, copywriters, artists, and photographers. They advertise their work online and do the work offline. I know a guy who made his own sandals so he could continue to run essentially barefoot and sells kits for the sandals online. I know a guy who invented ultralight backpacking techniques and sells the patterns to sew your own gear online. Personally, I am writing some books to sell online and I have two web sites with blogs that make a little bit of money on ads. I could probably sell some services through the web site, but so far I haven't been willing to perform the services I'm thinking of.

I think if you are looking for get rich quick schemes, you'll just keep finding more of the same stuff you've grown to dislike.
