I watched this several years ago; I need to see it again. The filmmaker, Richard Linklater has made lots of other interesting films. "Slacker" is probably most analogous to "Waking Life", basically following people around Austin TX while they give their "philosophies" on life. It's not as deep, but it's got it's moments, while being very entertaining. He also used the rotoscoping animation technique again in "A Scanner Darkly"; they did some pretty interesting stuff with that one, though aside from that I found the film rather conventional for a Dick novel adaption. It was still entertaining though. He did a better novel adaption of "Fast Food Nation", turning it into a narrative film where the book you'd think would make a better documentary.
