I believe consciousness is a natural phenomena born of humanity and existing only within humanity. The whole human-being (mind, body, feelings) contain the whole consciousness. It isn't another realm. Everything is energy no matter what form it takes at any given moment; hence, we are all one. We can all intellectually understand that concept. To experience it is another story. Speculation is an aspect of reason and not of experience itself.
