Actually Einstein et al are/were more "connected" than most psychics - he was just tuned into different information. The cliche' of the absent-minded professor and highly intelligent people often being somewhat eccentric, I believe, comes from the fact that these people are drawing from "higher" conciousness. They almost literally do have their heads in the clouds.
I have a fairly high IQ (but I'm no genius), and I feel that stuff like Einstein did often does not come through pure step-by-step logic but a sudden flash of insight.
