I am one of the people that believe in one of the misconceptions mentioned "Dreams contain messages that are lost with lucid dreaming." But I am assuming that most people get messages in their dreams. May be by the time you master lucid dreams you already know how to decipher messages in your dreams.
Apart from the things they already said in that paragraph, I've heard accounts of people who actually used their lucidity to help them interpret their messages. They would just go to someone in the dream and ask flat out "What do you represent in this dream?". Saved them a lot of guessing.
I am still not convinced as to why, don't you just want to turn consciousness off at some point?
Well, no. Or at least my lucid dreams are too infrequent to grow tired of them. In the beginning I was worried that maybe I'd loose out on sleep (or rather rest) by being conscious while dreaming, but so far it always carried an energy boost, not a drain.
