Well I don't believe necessarly that she thought all her abilities were coming from her....rather that she prided herself on these things and thus brought her ego into them. "I'm so good I have all these psychic abilities." ect. Yes your abilities can weaken if you don't continually train them....but they don't just vanish into thin air if you don't. Also I know a psychic who let her ego get involved in a relationship. Needless to say her abilities greatly dimished...but nevertheless she still retains some of her psychic abilities. The way I like to think of it is "psychic" is like a muscle. The more you train it the bigger and stronger it gets. If you don't train it..it doesn't vanish..it just isn't very strong.
