Default Interpretation of Going Into The Light?

Hello! I am new here (nice to meet you) and blessed to find this site! Can you all share with me what you interpret it to mean when you say crossing over/going into the light? So, in your mind does that mean you become one with God/Source and lose your individual identity (ego I guess). How do you die and see yourself dead and then look up and see your higher self I guess I am stuck on that, the higher self? Or can you refer me to a good book to read on this that is plain. I have come on a spiritual crisis 'block' perhaps after experiencing a sort of near death experience sort of... and am having trouble now and things that were 'clear' to me before are muddled. I am also overly attached now here because of my cutie pie kiddos and that isn't good in my mind and yet for some reason the idea of crossing over is so vague when it wasn't before. (Was feeling myself pulled down a dark tunnel, trying to shout out 'i am awakening' only i was speaking jibberish and wandering around according to my husband, then passed out' and now don't remember anything... except I feel distorted and panicky whereas I was secure before). So... I am curious to know when you go into the light... is this what you might refer to as "heaven" where our higher selves wander in their place of learning and hang out with God and decide "I'd like to incarnate sometime" and come back as someone else or how does that work. That's kind of how I see it. I am kind of going through a transformation right now and its taking its toll. I am enjoying hearing others interpretations in the meantime as I collect myself and restore my security blanket.

Thanks!!... having a spiritual 'crisis' & restoration I guess!
