Welcome to our club

Cool story about traveling to different countries and working from there!

Do you have a vision board seeker? |
No, I don't have a vision board as you've mentioned it. I did write my top 15 goals each day for 5 months in a row, but I stopped back in April when my life seemed to be turned upside down, I didn't know what I wanted anymore. I know though that's a very very beneficial exercise as a number of those goals that I wrote down everyday manifested in very unusual and delightful ways.

Well, I don't want a job, in the traditional sense of the word. I don't want to work for a corporation, a traditional company with a traditional boss and coworkers, etc.
I have a sense of what I'd love to do, how I'd love to contribute but I'm still working through it.
I know one thing I would love to do is to help create and grow non-profit organizations that make a true impact in the world and really helps uplift people's lives.
Another thing I'd love to do is to help worthwhile organization who face a challenge, by deeply analyzing their problems, and then come up with an innovative strategy to overcome those problems and get them to where they want to go. I love doing stuff like that.
So I'm still working on it - how to create a career doing stuff I love, without being tied to a corporate overlord. Part of that is to keep on digging to find out what I love to do.
I took the Career Leader test as part of my MBA school preparation yesterday and out of the nine desires business students have, the two strongest I had were:
- Enterprise Control which is: "Interested in setting business strategy and having the power to ensure that the strategy is carried out. Ultimately want general management role."
- Theory Development and Conceptual Thinking which is: "Interested in high-level abstract thinking about business issues, and the theory (as well as the practice) of business strategy. Enjoy doing in-depth research"
That sounds about right, I love setting strategy and thinking deeply about strategies, and I love thinking about the whys and theories of things I'm interested in.
They said the best matches for me would be:
General Manager
Research and Development Manager
Strategic Planning and Business Development
Venture Capital
Those sound fun...except I want to make a positive difference in the world, and I'm no longer keen on working for a traditional corporation.
Here is one thing I found funny they said about me.

Boisterousness and aggressive behavior definitely run counter to the norm in this kind of culture. People who thrive in such organizations generally view social and business "networking" as a chore to be avoided or minimized, rather than as a fundamental -- and fun -- part of work. Your tendency in this direction is very strong, so you'll want to pay close attention to this aspect of any organization you consider working for. |

Ah? How do you represent your vague ideas - how do you do it? What are your vague ideas?
