I have read most of Erin's posts since joining this forum in March, last year and I do relate to a lot of what she describes, having had some similar experiences myself.

The point I am trying to make is that if a person is very sensitive, fragile and suffering from any kind of stress, then the last thing they should be doing is opening up their psyche or subconscious to experience the 'spirit world'.

I know this from experience. Twenty or so years ago, I had a strong interest in hypnosis and discovered that I could hypnotize friends and family members quite easily and get them to do silly things. Well, I met a girl in London, a few days before I was due to fly out to the Middle East to start a new job and we got on really well and I told her about my interest in hypnosis.

She seemed interested and asked to be hypnotized. I half heartedly showed her and she went under immediately. We had some interesting experiences. She seemed to know things about me and my family, which I had not told her about. She would suddenly go into different characters/personalities and even spoke French, which she had never spoken before and another language which sounded like Japanese. We were amazed by this and thought it was all good fun.

However, over the next few days, she kept phoning me saying she was afraid, saying that the devil was waiting outside her apartment for her. I went round several times to calm her, but her condition got worse. I eventually took her to a church, which she said her guide had directed her to, and asked a priest to exorcise her.

She seemed to improve and looked OK when I flew out to my new job. However, after a few days I found out that she had relapsed and had a breakdown and been admitted to hospital. I felt very guilty, but I was 1,200 miles away. I also found out that she had suffered from some stress related conditions previously. She eventually recovered and is more or less back to normal. It was very scary and I was completely out of my depth.

So, all I am advising is – be careful, don't go into these things lightly, your very sanity is at stake.
