I was just about to head over here and post a thread called 3G iPhone - One Week Later. Since this already here...
Like a dork, I waited for a few hours. I had a book, I had an iPod playing Peter Gabriel's instrumental "Passion" to eliminate the drone of the crowd and background noise. I've wanted an iPhone for a year, so I decided to pick this one up. I was hesitant about picking up a phone bill (my parents have been exceptionally nice about this since they moved out of state), but I realized it was in the budget, so why not?
There's a lot of hatred for this phone, but it's not for everyone. That's fine. No, you can't do certain things on it. Show me a phone that does everything the iPhone does and then everything that people want the iPhone to do and you have a $1000 phone that few will buy. Personally, I don't care about the OS. The iPhone does what I want - calls people, texts people, emails people, surfs the web (with a VERY cool surfing interface IMHO), takes simple camera phone pictures, and has some cool little applications that help me find people, places, and things.
This phone will never be perfect for everyone, and if it weren't made by Apple, no one would be talking about it and not near as many people would be buying it - look at the Instinct. Very cool phone, but there aren't a million blog posts or forums topics about it. I don't get the whole hating on Apple (or for that matter, PC) trend. Use one or the other (or both!) and roll with it. I have a Dell XPS laptop, and an iPod and iPhone 3G. One was affordable (XPS) and the others were universal for most things that are coming out for audio and phones and have smooth ass interfaces.
End rant.
