Reading the Gabriel Method
Hi there,
I am new to this forum but was interested in the discussion around the Gabriel Method. I have just bought the book and about half way through. I too am a long term struggler of the bulge. Whilst only about 10kg over the desired weight, i do find it hard to keep down. I exercise heaps, eat great food, but my portion control... well, plus a good red and a pint often tempt me. So i do have some challenges. Luckily for me, i put it on all over so it doesnt manifest around my beer belly area, so less chance of long term heart implications.
I just wanted to say that i agree with Rodni on this one. Have a read of the book ($35ish is nothing if you find some benefit out of it, thats the cost of a steak at a pub here in Perth), have a crack at the techniques but dont give up after week two if nothing is happening. This is the failure of so many people attempting so many diets, and yep, i have been there too many times. I have found Weight Watchers to be great and i can maintain that level for a couple of years usually, its only when i go overseas i seem to lose the plot. And long term, it doesnt create the mindset shift i obviously need.. I was telling my girlfriend about it and she started the cynical (prematurely defeatist) comments, though not intentional i think. I said, lets have a read first, adapt some of the techniques and see how it goes. The interesting thing is that i have already adapted a lot of these things. I also noticed on other forums people keep talking about the Job Gabriel Diet... though i think he is suggesting that you lose weight without dieting.
What Jon Gabriel is encouraging is a long term mindset shift. Its about focusing on both psychological and nutritional contributors to health and well-being. I am a massive foody so i would be challenged to completely change my diet but i think what Jon is suggesting is that you develop a love for the things that make you feel amazing. So whilst that 300g porterhouse may make you feel great at the time and then makes you want to take a satisfying nap, he is suggesting that you may find greater benefit out of having a Thai Beef Salad (my assumption here) where you get your meat fix plus the added benefits of the live foods he talks about. If you cant put aside your cravings for the 300g porterhouse then long term this may not be of great benefit for you, but it all comes down to choice and desired wellbeing. I like his psychological approach too, it makes great sense.
Big Dave i do hope you find some benefit out of the readings. I also hope i find some. I would be interested to know how you go. Wow, long post, sorry gang, just wanted to get some thoughts out there (clarity for myself too i guess).
Hope im not too late on the post!
