If you think that luck doesn't exist you are a lot less likely to act on lucky opportunities that come along.
If you are at a party and out of millions of people, exactly the person that could help you archive what you are wanting to might be there.
Maybe you want to get published as an author and the person own a publishing house.

You might have a test next day and leave the party early because you focus on having enough sleep for the test.
You missed your lucky opportunity of continuing to talk to that person.

We live in a world where small opportunites can mean a lot. You can't predict when you will have a lucky moment.

At my university we have the opportunity to repeat each exam in math one time. 4.0 is the worst note with which you can still pass and 1.0 is the best.

I wrote 4.0 at my first exam for the course. I went there a second time without learning more than two hours before the second time and got a 1.0.

There another classmate who spent a lot more time in total learning and got a 2,3 at the first exam.
She didn't went for a second time, because she felt happy with the result she reached through learning for the first test and didn't want to learn that much again.
Spending 2 hours on an exam is nothing compared to a semester of having a course.

I used the opportunity of going again into the exam and got lucky. She didn't.
Naturally that's no excuse for learning less. On the other hand there still luck and if you think there isn't you will miss big opportunities that present themselves to you.

Be always on the look out for opportunties to become lucky.
