Me too, I've wondered this [especially regarding Erin, who talked to my alleged spirit guides and who makes a lot of spiritually universal proclamations based on what other-worldly entities have told her or what she has seen, things that most people on this site seem to mindlessly eat up like she's the inspired author of the Bible on spirituality.]
Having said that, however, I don't mean I think this entity was necessarily not the OP's guide, I'd think more that it might have been a guide. But it's important to consider what Yossarian says, because it's also true and you can get led astray and you can then lead others astray as well.

I had an experience similar to that once, only it was a powerful, real-feeling dream I had of a female demon-presence trying to drag me down to her hell. Even after I woke up, I could still feel her around me and I also had to ask God to protect me and not let me dream of that thing again. It was absolutely horrifying, the emotions inside that female thing. But I was not nor have I ever tried to commune with spirits, so it was not related to efforts I was making. I couldn't imagine actively or deliberately inviting such a horror into my life. Nowadays, though, I think I have found some angels to help me
