I have often thought of that and you've probably just given me the little push I needed to actually start doing something.
However the main problem with focussing locally is that the poverty just isn't as bad here as certain other countries - our social welfare system generally makes it easy to get a large enough benefit to live on. That's not to say there are no people here that could use some help but I just think there is a lot potential for positive effects on peoples life in other countries.
