I tried it once back when I had a toothache - bought an audio recording which was supposed to hypnotize you and help you reduce your pain, but it did little for me.

Any tips on making this kind of thing work better? Is it possible for it to work 100%?

I'm not in any pain currently, but I have a lot of fear of physical pain, so this is a topic I've always been curious about.
Some people are more easily and deeply hypnotized than others. For most people, susceptibility to hypnosis is a skill that one can improve through practice. If you go under hypnosis everyday, you will eventually go into trance more easily, and you will go deeper into trance as well.

I'm not sure if you could expect to undergo surgery without anaesthetic, but you may be able to more easily manage pain, with fewer drugs.
