Yes, people are getting rich off of it, but the other problem is that there currently is no alternative to switch to, not one that is scalable, economical, and sustainable anyway. There are plenty of
potential alternatives, but it will take time, money, and effort to develop them. This truly is a monumental task.
Hopefully, we can pursue these alternatives and slowly reduce oil consumption to zero over the next few decades, without causing massive economic disruption and suffering.
