With EFT, before you start tapping, you check your SUDS level. I forget what the letters stand for, but the SUDS level is the degree with which you are being affected. For instance, if you want to release anger, check the degree of anger you are feeling on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest. Let's say your SUDS level is 8.
After a round of tapping, check your SUDS level again. It usually goes down somewhat or it could stay the same. If it's going down then keep doing rounds until it is greatly diminished or totally gone. If it's the same, you may want to experiment with different words until you find the right trigger word. For example, maybe you tried "Even though I'm angry, I deeply and completely accept myself" and it didn't lessen the SUDS. Then maybe you might try "Even though I'm mad as hell, I deeply and completely accept myself" and that might work. It takes some experimenting to find the right words for you.
Basically keep going until the SUDS level is 0 or you feel satisfied with the SUDS level or get tired or bored with the process. Some issues clear up in one session. Some issues will persist but lessen in frequency and slowly diminish. Some issues will be released and then you will realize that there is something else beneath it. So it can be an ongoing process of shedding layers of old emotions, beliefs or symptoms.
