Yes, everything people do is out of self concern - sometimes we like to dress it up in some seemingly selfless act to give the appearance we're better than others or more evolved or enlightened - but at its deepest level it is always out of self concern.

what we choose depends on our own inner concerns.

no choices are better than the other - they just are.

Many people stay childfree for selfish reasons like more money, spontanious sex or sleeping in on the weekend, but don't put parents on a pedestal: they are just as selfish as the rest of us. You know why? Because in the end, we're all human. And that's okay.

I don't want children, because with that freedom, I can do a lot more for the world, rather than having to care for a single person 24/7. And if people like Mother Theresa and Jesus are immature, then I'm going to take that as a compliment

And finally, I don't really understand your concern for the extinction of the human race. Have you seen what we've done to the planet? We're not an asset: we're parasites, and no other species is going to miss us. It's an invalid arguement anyway. There will always be people who honestly want children, and said children will then A) be welcome, and B) have a cleaner planet with more resources. Everyone wins!

P.S: if my parents did not want children, you would be talking to them now.
