I bet there are folks out there who'd claim it does...
And doesn't any creative work in a way promise to make your life better somehow? Just not in any profound way but for a little while. And it seems the more superfical the promise the less we resist it, but once any creative work or product promises a profound change then even a little amount of money charged and even I at times feel a resistance creep up in me, a fear of being conned.
On the other hand one hardly ever feels conned paying money for shallow entertainment without any such promised benefits. I wonder why that is so, whether it's not the infamous ego being scared and finding "reasonable" excuses to dodge potential danger.
