AngryIndian says Erin, I think more than attraction what is important is whether you can "keep" the person or not. Relationships start from attraction, but successful are the ones where there is a high degree of compatibility, the right degree of compromise from both partners, where you can be yourself and not try to be someone else just to keep someone in a relationship with you.
That said and done, it is possible to attract other people to you. We human beings consider ourselves to be extremely complicated, truth is we are after all simple animals.
The best tactic I've seen works with attracting someone of the opposite sex:
1. Hit a gym or the running track regularly
2. Get a great body - or as close to a great body that you can genetically. By a great body, I mean a healthy body. Swami Vivekanand said that a healthy body is essential for a healthy mind. (If you don't know who SV is Google him)
3. If you have been carrying excess bagage from a past relationship - drop it.
4. Feel good about yourself
5. When you meet someone new, don't wait to ask them out.
6. Most importantly, keep an open mind. Remember - Everything Works, Nothing works forever.
