When such things happen to me, I don't find it funny at all!
I've generally tried to go about other ways of trying to prove myself as being psychologically valid or intelligent. Then I ask: "If I'm intellectually respectable in these other ways, then shouldn't you give me the benefit of the doubt in this issue?"
But it's a waste of time, because anyone who could be convinced by this logic would have extended the respect in the first place!
