I think the binaural beat frequency CDs are great and of no harm.

Alpha brain waves are light meditation.

Go for Theta!

Entrainment of brain waves happen with your willingness to enter into the state. The sounds just give you a map to follow, to entrain to. They do not force you into the state, you have to actively listen and relax or you don't change your brain waves.

I haven't heard it "channels your natural Alpha frequencies (which vary) into a single frequency." But - isn't that what we want? Isn't part of the endeavorer to make a coherent brain wave? A lot of the CDs go through levels of brain waves. like they start in beta and lead you down into a target frequency, then move a round a bit and come back up to beta toward the end. Someone posted in this forum something that was software that allowed you to design beat frequency sessions with time periods of going from beta to alpha (or what ever frequency). I played with that some in the past too. The CDs were more interesting or entertaining (which might not be good since it shouldn't be about entertainment too much, maybe).

I haven't tried the center point stuff. I think they give you a coarse which is probably good so that you have variety and something new. And a progressive deepening.

I've used Jeffery Thompson CDs and Kelly Howell and some Stuart Wilde stuff. Some of them have guided visualizations, others just sounds. I find them effective and calming my brain waves and putting me in a mediation zone. But then to not rely on the CDs to much, I also meditate without them too.
