Once upon a time in a land, um, well, called here and now...

I was homeless for about 6 months. It's a long story how I ended up in that situation (something I also manifested). I was working two part time jobs, but I wasn't making enough money to get a place on my own and I couldn't find a roommate. I lived in two different homeless shelters, a hotel, my car, someone's couch, it was rough. I was constantly on the move.

One day I was visiting with my son who lives with my mother. I was at my wits end and I called a friend of mine in hopes he would cheer me up or at least stop me from losing my mind. Unfortunately, he was busy at that moment. But he said, "There's never a bad time to pray."

Well, I had never been one to pray. I thought God was pretty much a jerk. I blamed him for a lot of my problems. But I basically had nothing to lose. So I said something to the effect of, "Lord, please give me a decent job that pays well and a home so that I can take care of my family."

Then, I took my son to Tae Kwon Do practice. I was standing there watching my son in his white pajamas throwing punches and kicks and there was an older guy standing next to me watching his son. We had met before at my son's class, but I didn't think much of it. He asked how I was doing. I said I was doing ok, though I was looking for a new job. He said, "I'll get you a job." It had been 15 minutes since I prayed.

Ends up he owned this company outside of town that does work for the railroad. A week later, I was one of his employees. And I wasn't sweeping floors or emptying trash. I was running a million dollar piece of machinery, one of the largest vertical mills in the U.S. I was making more money than I had ever made in my life.

The same day I started, I found a place to live. A very nice place for very cheap. I went from sleeping in my car to having all the amenities of modern life: it was furnished, a computer w/ internet, cable tv, AC. My favourite was the free coffee.

Now I have job skills that could find me work any place in the country. I also got back with the mother of my children, something I didn't think would happen in a million years.

Reflecting back on it all I would say: a) I should have been more specific and b) it doesn't matter what I think God is. I could have said Captain Kirk, so don't get caught up in some metaphysical debate with yourself. What mattered was that I stated my intention. This taught me a lot about how the world really works, which was not the way I thought.

PS Ironically, one of my part-time jobs was at a bookstore. Guess what book had just come out? Yep. The Secret. Hmmmm
