You will of course gain weight drinking a gallon of milk per day, as it's about 2000 calories and 80g of fat. For some people - certainly those who don't seem to gain weight no matter what - it should be relatively successful.

If money is available the best thing to do is to buy the best protein powder you can afford and have a couple of protein shakes per day. Aim for a brand that allows 40-50g of protein per serving.

Eat normally otherwise, but try to consume as much lean protein as you can - chicken breasts, steak mince, tuna, etc. Eat lots of vegetables. Take a decent multivitamin.

Combine this with 3-4 sessions per week of strength training at the gym (no more than 30-45 minutes each, focusing on a full-body workout of 6-8 compound exercises each time) and you should see decent gains in six weeks, and be well on your way in three months.
