Writing to find myself
For me, journaling has been a way to access my own self, and to find my personal truth. I process stress verbally, and if I don't take the time to write, I find myself easily slipping back into the bad habit of complaining and giving energy to what I don't want to continue in my life. Through journaling, I slow down, untangle the knot of thoughts and emotions, and give myself the chance to find my answers.
At one point in my life (just after my divorce and the deaths of my foster mother and two students in the space of three months), my counselor "released" me, with the acknowledgement that I was doing my own "therapy" through my writing, and he was available to serve as a sounding board as needed, but I'd made it through that set of challenges and back to stability (for lack of a better word).
I still use journaling to process strong emotional situations-seeking an empowering interpretation and looking for my path through the challenge of the day. I also use that time to integrate concepts for my personal development, draft articles (I am often more comfortable writing in longhand than on the computer), and building/enriching my vision for the future. Law of Attraction at work-if I create a vibrant vision for some facet of my life, I almost always find it becoming a present reality very quickly.
