You're seriously arguing that subliminal messages never work? I think it's common knowledge that any kind of repetative visual stimulation will make you think more about whatever it is that's being flashed. Obviously "how effective" is questionable, but that's not the point of this discussion. The point is that they're even trying to do it, it's wrong. And, if there's even the slightest chance it could have an effect on the vote, it should not be allowed. A line has to be drawn somewhere. You can say, "Well, if you don't like it, don't watch TV. Then you can't be affected." But, what about the people who don't realize they're being manipulated (which is most people)? Maybe this won't have an effect, but we shouldn't allow them to even try it. If we let this go, what will they try next? Subliminal audio that's barely audible under your favorite TV show? "John McCain for President John McCain for President John McCain for President John McCain for President" Don't think they won't try it if we let them. They'll push it as far as they can. We should be able to watch the news objectively without any attempts to brainwash us, whether they work or not.
