A great test would be to go on Atkins for three weeks and see what carbs are doing to you. After the first three days, you will need less sleep and feel energetic all day.

Not everyone's chemistry is designed to handle the level of carbohydrates the average modern human consumes. That includes healthy things like fruits and veggies.

As far as brown rice and higher fiber breads, the only difference is how fast your body turns them into sugar. The crash still happens, it's just slower to come.
