I wrote a few blog posts on the topics of traffic promotion, etc. on what I believe it takes, or why you don't have what it takes. Same as Steve has done in the past (despite though some of Steve's web savvy "elements"
here are vastly out of date, although to be fair, it was written a few years ago).

What I was referring to as "submitting" was the act of actually digging or stumbling your own pages. Not linking to it in a profile or anything.
It's just like adding your website into signature or profile field here at the forums, I don't think that's spamming at all, (well, unless the person makes useless, short one line "I agree" type of posts, that contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation).
