I really don't think this particular time ever actually existed, although many people seem to think it was a 1950 til the evil 1960's N. American phenomenon (usually the same types who claim "the 1950's were just like Leave it to Beaver!" or "Christianity spread peacefully throughout Europe!"). If you look throughout history, the idea of marriage as a purely motivated, romantic act of love is relatively new, as it was usually just meant for political reasons (after which the political trophy bride could usually be cheated on as often as wanted by her husband with no repercussion), and brothels were just as popular throughout most of known history as porn is today. The past has simply been censored and romaniticized, and when it comes to history and people's motivation for things they do, all of the sex has been conveniently edited out.
You have to remember that humans as a species have spent millenia now learning new ways to kill each other, and being led into countless wars fought for the greed of a highly-ranked group or even a single man, which still continues to this day, and yet people in comparison still act as if casual sex (and even masturbation) are horrible, evil things plaguing humanity. I just don't understand it.
