When you dream of a loved one dying, it doesn't have to mean it's precognitive and that they are going to die, at least in my experience. I've had loads of dreams about family members dying in the past and they are all still around!
I do think that these dreams tend to be significant though.
For a start, this dream could be highlighting some of your own fears like a fear of death, fear of loss.
I feel that when I have a death dream, it is showing me that my time during this incarnation is not going to be forever - on occasions these sorts of dreams have spurred me to live each day as it is my last and to take time to appreciate those around me
Or as you mention, it could be a symbolic dream about your brother's life path.
