Some time ago my friend and I had an idea to start a website about personal goal achievement. Now I realise it's getting rather large to handle and we could use some help.
About the site:
On this (social networking) site one can find help and support for reaching personal goals.
This may include help in defining the necessary steps to reach the goal, tips and tricks on specific goals and goal achievement in general and a calendar where you can put your planning in and (if you like) make it public, so to motivate you a bit more.
As for the social networking part, people can sign up as achiever, as a coach, or both. Also you'd have the default stuff like pm's, profiles, success stories etc.
That, and two pages more, are the ideas we've had for the site up till now.
I think this is the perfect time for such a site, because I see the world opening up. People are getting more interested in personal development. And goal achievement is a big factor in that.
I avoid the word 'coaching', because it's not just a site where you can find coaches, it needs to offer more than that. It should be of value even without coaches present.
I plan to keep the site free of charge.
Need help with this beastie.
I realise now that creating this site is pretty complicated and time consuming. For example, the site would have lots of features and has to be expandable in the future. Also, I'm not experienced in creating social networking sites, and it's important to know how such sites work and what the user wants and likes.
So we need help.
I've already done some research and made a basic planning, but it's more like a few drafts at this moment.
How can you help?
That's up to you.

Right now I can use all the advise you have, so please share your infinite wisdom with me..) How should I begin? Is this doable with a low/no budget? What should I watch out for?
Maybe you can think of a few features that would really help the users?
Other than your smart, thoughtful and friendly replies, I would love to have some more people 'on the team'.
I'm thinking about people who have experience or are skilled at project planning, building/designing social networking sites or dynamic sites in general, people that can design good user interfaces, code monkeys, well anything that would be of use in this project.
As you can probably notice, I really have no experience in this heh.
Hmmz, it looks a bit like a shameless commercial ad now. That's not my intention at all.
I'm posting this here because I feel this is the kind of site that would eventually help us all. The users of Steve's forums are generally people who are interested in personal development, and so I feel you guys might be interested in this idea and maybe be able to give me some feedback and perhaps even help with the development yourself.
I'm trying to add something valuable to the community, for the good of the community, no, for the good of all people who want to achieve their goals.
So, how do you guys feel about this revolutionary new idea of a website?
P.S. I wrote this a bit like an article to keep it clear, since it's a rather big post..)
