'What is mind?' and the purposes of meditation are not easy questions to address. Meditation aims as stilling the mind, letting it settle so that we can experience reality more directly without the constant chatter and filter of our thoughts. When we see the 'truth,' you could call this enlightenment.
To me, though, mind is made up of conscious and subconscious - the former thinks and directs, the latter communicates with a wider, universal intelligence to see that the will of the conscious mind is carried out. It is 'open at both ends,' I have written about this at my blog, if interested. |
