I don't think a "Darkworker" has to operate from a place of fear. A "Lightworker" could operate from a state of fear for another's sake for example. And a darkworker could operate (and primarily do) out of a sense of love for self. However, in that love for self, they might well induce a state of fear in others for various purposes, for purposes of control and manipulation. It is true that those who serve self in the extreme fear the loss of identity, and accessories to identity (material posessions). I would argue that the whole gamut of emotions rangeing from fear to love operate in both polarities of consciousness. At least, in this world, that is. The difference lies primarily in the direction they channel those energies. One loves self, the other loves others. And then there are the unpolarized who love a little of this, and a little of that.
