I am now joining the LOA experiment (DIY) and find that the technique you describe is very similar to waht we are doing now, i.e. relaxing and getting into alpha state and visualizing and affirmation etc. Right now I am doing one 20 minute session a day. After reading your story, I might start doing it twic a day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
