Hits does not equal unique site visitors. Hits measures each item on your site that gets downloaded to the visitor's browser.

Hah, I wish I knew about that last year. I thought I was getting 1,000 different people each day at one point, and I thought it was a huge milestone. Then I put up Google AdSense and used w3counter, and I found that it was more like 100 people. I didn't know why there was such a big difference between my web host's stats package and w3counter's stats until now. Thanks for that. B-)
