Yeah $500-$1000 is a reasonable price for an entire set up. If you're new and trying to make a name for yourself, you could go lower of course.

I'm surprised it's that high too. I have no CSS knowledge, no PHP knowledge, and I'm decent with photoshop. Using open source software like Joomla I could set up a pretty sophisticated site in a few hours and get $500 for it.

Most non-tech savvy people don't realize how easy it is to set up a website these days.
