Now, I can't judge any particular person responding here, but in general the discussion does follow a remarkably similar pattern. Everyone keeps insisting it's all about the legal status -- if only immigrants were funneled through the proper channels, we would stop complaining, promise!

Actually, the LEGALITY of it is precisely what I'm taking issue with. Like I said in my initial post--I'm all for legal immigration, and I think our legal immigration is in need of dire reform so that it's much easier for someone to come here. For example, Joe Englishman is a respectable citizen in England, but wants to move to the US for personal reasons--he just thinks it might be nicer to live here--but he has no family here and can't get an Employer's Petition for Immigration, the immigration lottery doesn't include his native country, and let's also say that he's homosexual, meaning a Fiancé's Petition for Immigration wouldn't work if he DID happen to have a partner here as a US citizen...he's not a threat to anyone, not a terrorist or anything--all he wants to do is live here in America instead of England, so why should he be denied the opportunity? The same example could be used on someone from just about any country, really.
One of my friends told me once about how her father migrated here from Mexico legally, and the process took him 13 years. That's 1/6th the average lifespan--do you REALLY want to be spending 1/6th of your entire life waiting just so you can live as you feel you should? It's not a wonder that people migrate here illegally...but that doesn't mean I'm excusing it, or in favor of it. My argument still stands that people are SUPPORTING ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, and the government isn't really doing anything about it. Morgan Spurlock, on his show "30 Days," had a man live with a family of illegal immigrants. The family name was changed to protect them, but their faces were not blurred out or anything--was Morgan Spurlock and everyone else associated with that show arrested since they were knowingly associating with illegal immigrants and not reporting them? And what about that day we had (I can't remember if it was last year or the year before) where a bunch of illegal immigrants stayed home from their jobs out of "protest"? That would have been SUCH an opportune time to go around and find out who might be illegal just on the merit that they didn't show up for work that day, so the government could round up ALL these illegals for deportation.
I'm not a racist just because I don't want people breaking the law. I welcome people of all cultures to come here--I just want them to do it the right way, and I want that right way to be much, much easier.
